| The 402G and 412G
machines differ from the other 400 series machines in
several ways. In addition to being just a basic zig-zag machine, with
no option for any type of decorative stitches, the controls are laid
out differently. See the center picture above. |

| The 402 G and 412G also differ in the way the needle plate attaches. It snaps into place. Unlike the other machines in the 400 series, there is no option to raise the needleplate for freehand stitching (or buttonholes). The feed dogs do not drop either. | |

| The two needleplates on the right (one for straight stitch, one for zig-zag) raises the material above the feed dogs for freehand sewing. | And this is
the chainstitch needleplate! I believe that this machine follows the
pattern with other machines in the 400 series, in that, the 401, 402,
403 and 404 do not chainstitch. The 411, 412, and 414 do. |
